Iowans have lots of good ideas, ideas that the Iowa Senate passed in 2015 and 2016. Unfortunately, they are now stuck in the Iowa House. It’s time for the Iowa House to take up these common sense measures to improve the quality of life for many Iowans.
SF 1: “Iowa First” legislation gives Iowa businesses selling products & services to the state a chance to match out-of-state bids.
SF 269: Giving 181,000 working Iowans a raise by increasing Iowa’s minimum wage.
SF 270: Fighting wage theft by making clear employers must pay their workers what they are owed.
SF 460: Protecting workers paid by debit cards from unfair fees and providing alternatives.
SF 334: Protecting minors from conversion therapy, attempts by licensed mental health providers change a person’s sexual orientation.
SF 345: Keeping all students safe from bullying with additional training so schools investigate and discipline harassment and bullying.
SF 477: Extends SAVE (education infrastructure funding) for 20 more years
SF 472: Increased investment for English language learners in our local schools
SF 476: Increased investment for preschool English language learners
SF 174: Increasing state School Aid at 4% for the 2017-18 school year (State law requires it to have been approved last year)
SF 336: Victims of sexual abuse can seek a civil protective order to keep abusers away from their home, school and work
SF 300: Adding dating violence to the definition of criminal domestic abuse, requiring mandatory confinement and batterer education if convicted
SF 395: Cracking down on stalking
SF 447: Ensure justice for victims of childhood sexual abuse by extending the statute of limitations
SF 2213: Strong, independent oversight to bring accountability, patient protection & improvements to Medicaid privatization.
HF 6: Expands the criminal offense of sexual exploitation by a school employee to include all school district employees
