Applications for State Historic Preservation Tax Credits are being accepted through July 31. The program provides a state income tax credit of 25 percent of qualified rehabilitation costs for historic buildings. Owners of historic properties and developers use the tax credit to leverage private investment in the reuse and preservation of Iowa’s historic buildings.
During the 2013 session, the Legislature made changes that should expand opportunities to take advantage of the tax credit. Senate File 436 changed the definition of commercial property, the dollar amounts for projects to qualify and the length of time to complete a project.
